RJ Griffith Shares His Story at Gary Lighthouse Charter School’s Summer Safety Prevention Assembly
On Friday, May 16, 2025, Chicago-based recording artist and actor RJ Griffith visited Gary Lighthouse Charter School to headline a powerful Summer Safety Prevention assembly, speaking to students in grades 4–8 about critical topics including anti-drug awareness, anti-violence, anti-bullying, anti-suicide, and mental health.
Through his speech and performance, Griffith shared his personal journey — including experiences with childhood bullying, growing up with a father battling drug addiction, and facing his own mental health challenges while building his music career. His honest and relatable message struck a meaningful chord with the students, encouraging them to speak up, seek help, and know they are not alone.
“I want these kids to understand that no matter what challenges they’re facing, they can push through and create a positive future,” said Griffith. “I’ve been where they are, and I’m here to tell them they’re stronger than they realize.”
The event aimed to inspire hope, resilience, and positive choices as students head into the summer months.
