RJ Griffith Brings Message of Positivity and Purpose to Gary Lighthouse Charter School Students

Chicago-based singer-songwriter, actor, and youth advocate RJ Griffith delivered an uplifting performance and motivational talk to 4th through 8th grade students at Gary Lighthouse Charter School on Friday, May 16. The event, held in collaboration with Griffith’s nonprofit organization Positive Vibes Only, focused on inspiring students to lead positive, purpose-driven lives despite the challenges they may face.

During the session, RJ shared personal stories, performed original music, and spoke directly to the students about the importance of mindset and media consumption. He emphasized that while everyone experiences difficult moments, it is how you respond and what you choose to focus on that defines your path forward.

“Life gets tough, but staying stuck in that negativity will not get you anywhere,” RJ told the students. “If you are already feeling down, listening to negative music or surrounding yourself with negative energy will only keep you in that place. Fill your mind with positivity, whether that is music, podcasts, or people who lift you up, and you will be amazed at the kind of life you can build.”

The students responded enthusiastically to both RJ’s message and his performance, clapping along to his music and lining up for pictures and autographs afterward. Teachers and staff praised the visit for its relevance, relatability, and the positive energy it brought to the school community.

This visit is one of many efforts by Positive Vibes Only, a nonprofit dedicated to using music, mentorship, and motivational programming to support youth development and mental wellness. The organization regularly partners with schools and community groups to promote messages of hope, resilience, and leadership.
